Abstract:
Results of the research on using bark and coniferous sawdust in vegetable growing conducted in the Vegetable Section of the Poznan Agriculture Academy indicate that:
- Non-composted pine bark /Pinus silvestris L., Pinus strobus L./ spruce bark /Picea excelsa Lam./ and sawdust of these trees can be effectively used as a component of growing media mixed with black peat in cucumber and tomato growing under glass.
The amounds of bark and sawdust in these growing media did not exceed 50 and 75% by volume.
- The doses of bark and sawdust 50 l/m2 + 1 g nitrogen for 1 l of these materials may be used as organic fertilizers for lettuce and cucumber growing in plastic greenhouses.
- The mixture of 30% of black peat, 30% of sawdust, 30% of bark and 10% /by volume/ of hen droppings may be applied in cucumber growing as a biological heating layer instead of straw bales.
