Abstract:
The performance of fourteen pomegranate cultivars viz., Achikdana, Anar Shirin Mohammad Ali, Chawla, Ganesh, G-137, Jalore Seedless, Jodhpur Red, Kandhari Hansi, Kandhari Kabuli, Nabha, P-75-K-3, P-75-K-5, P-23, P26 was studied in the mid-hill zone of Himachal Pradesh.
The average highest yields for five years were recorded with Chawla (23.2 kg/tree) followed by Nabha (21.9 kg/tree) and Kandhari Kabuli (20.6 kg/tree) and the lowest with Jodhpur Red (13.2 kg/tree). The highest fruit weight was recorded with P-75-K-5 (508 g) and the lowest with Nabha (329 g). The highest total soluble solids were recorded with Kandhari Kabuli and the lowest with Nabha.
The study of general characters revealed that the Kandhari Kabuli, which has pinkish red fruit with blood red colored grains and a sweet taste with acidic blend, is an excellent variety for cultivation for mid-hill zone of Himachal Pradesh, India.
