Abstract:
Studies on genotype characteristics provide useful information for breeding programs. In this study 28 qualitative and quantitative traits of pomegranate seeds and fruits were evaluated. Analysis of variance revealed that all of the investigated characters between examined genotypes were significant, showing variability of each character between genotypes. Results of simple correlation analysis showed the existence of significant positive and negative correlations among characters. Factor analysis performed for determining the main characters showed that the fruit juice traits acted as a main factor and distributed to about 32.3% of total variance. Cluster analysis using the seven factors divided genotypes into 5 subclusters at a distance of 9. This study showed that multivariate analysis could be a useful method for the discrimination of pomegranate genotypes.
