YIELD COMPONENT OF CULTIVAR DIFFERENCES IN STRAWBERRY

Authors:   F. Grigorova, V. Dzhuvinov
Keywords:   strawberry cultivars, inflorescence, number of blossoms, fruit size, yield
Abstract:
Under the soil and climate conditions of central-south Bulgaria, strawberry cultivars originating from Italy, the Netherlands, and the USA were planted during the last week of July. The number of inflorescences during the second vegetation increased from three to 15 times, while the number of flowers six to 15 times, depending on the cultivar. The fruit amount during the first vegetation was 3.3 to 8.9 per plant and 12.0 to 54.4 during the second season. After the fourth fruit picking, there was no cultivar with fruits heavier than 15 g. The quickest degradation of size was with ‘Miss’, ‘Bogota’, and ‘Tethis’, while ‘Selva’ and ‘Cortina’ proved to be relatively stable.
