Abstract:
This study characterized the genetic diversity of 17 Tunisian date-palm cultivars sampled from the Tozeur oasis using random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) and inter simple sequence repeats (ISSR). Both random and ISSR primers have generated a total of 54 RAPDs and 48 ISSRs. The derived genetic distances values suggested high level of diversity among the date-palm cultivars studied. In addition, data proved that in the Tunisian germplasm, information provided by RAPD and ISSR is not equivalent. The distribution of each class of markers in the genome can be a critical factor to explain this result.
