Abstract:
Danae racemosa (Hamishak is local name in Iran) naturally grows mainly in the north parts of Iran.
This plant is native of Iran and it is also an evergreen shrub growing under the shade of forest trees and used as cut foliage.
This species is harvested from its natural habitat and has been sold for flower arrangements in different cities of Iran.
The experiments were carried out in dark conditions in a germinator.
Best germination occurred with seeds treated with GA3 and germinated at 20°C. Germination decreased when seeds were in a germinator with 25 or 15°C. Seed treatment with cold-moist stratification for 2 and 4 weeks followed germination at 20°C gave higher germination than other treatments.
Post germination of seeds (when radicle and leaf bud emerge), leaf emergence were inhibited and it was observed dormancy.
GA3 treatment was not able to break this dormancy.
Cold moist stratification for 10-12 weeks followed in germinator at 20 or 15°C was the best condition for emergency of one leaf and sometimes two leaves.
Leaf emergence was inhibited at 25°C.
