Abstract:
In this paper it is described the field performance of four orchid hybrids tissue cultured micropropagated planting materials, namely Dendrobium Tuanku Najihah, Dendrobium Doctor Sharif, Dendrobium Tuanku Fauziah (miniature) and Dendrobium Abdullah Badawi.
A successful micropropagation of orchids depends very much on the right choice of medium in the tissue culture procedure.
The Vacin and Went medium was successfully used in the tissue culture micropropagation of Dendrobium orchid.
The young plantlets were raised in the nursery.
Further transplanting into 6 inches pots was then carried out for the bigger plants and these pots were placed under netting shades (60%) for further evaluation.
Observations on the growth performances and data collection on the flower production of each hybrid were conducted at the harvesting stage.
Results indicated that the vegetative growth of the micropropagated orchid hybrids were true to type and the flower production varies between each hybrid.
However, the other morphological characteristics were similar to each individual original Dendrobium mother plant.
