EFFECT OF CHITOSAN AND JASMONIC ACID DERIVATIVES ON SHOOT FORMATION IN CULTURES OF CYMBIDIUM PROTOCORM - LIKE BODIES

Authors:   K. Shimasaki, T. Wang
Keywords:   Cymbidium, protocorm-like body (PLB), chitosan, jasmonic acid derivatives
Abstract:
We examined the effects of chitosan and jasmonic acid derivatives on shoot formation in Cymbidium insigne Rolfe. The single addition of chitosan H increased shoot formation from PLBs (protocorm-like bodies). Number of shoots developed from PLBs was highest at 1 mg L-1 chitosan H. However, addition of 0.001 mg L-1 chitosan H was most effective for induction of rooting from shoots developed from PLBs. Single addition of Me-JA (methyl jasmonate) or PDJ (n-propyl dihydrojasmonate) also increased shoot formation from PLB cultures. Combination treatments of chitosan H with Me-JA or PDJ significantly promote shoot formation from PLBs. Average number of shoots formed from PLBs increased more than 5 times compared with control treatment.
