Abstract:
The aims of this work were to produce suitable RAPD markers for the investigation for the first time of DNA polymorphism in Tunisian Barbary fig ecotypes useful for the analysis of genetic diversity and ecotype identification, and for the setting up of rational decisions concerning their conservation. Indeed, though this crop is widely cultivated in the country, collection repositories are missing. Thus, thirty-nine RAPD markers were used for the characterisation of 36 Tunisian Opuntia ficus-indica (L.) Mill. ecotypes. Consequently, considerable genetic diversity was detected and the UPGMA and FCA analyses permitted the discrimination of all genotypes. This result implied the preservation of all studied genotypes.
