Abstract:
Different solvent extracts from leaves of Prosopis juliflora were assessed for antibacterial activity against Xanthomonas campestris pv vesicatoria. Only methanol extracts showed significant antibacterial activity based on the zone of inhibition in a diffusion assay. Methanol extract was fractioned and monitored by bioassay. The active fraction exhibited significant zones of inhibition and a minimum inhibitory con¬centration (MIC) of 30 µg/ml. The fraction was as active as the synthetic antibiotics ciprofloxacin, erythromycin, streptomycin and penicillin.
