Abstract:
Technology of greenhouse vegetable production had been extensively improved in recent years. In the seedling production, containers with specific volume, containing different types of substrates are used. The main goal of this paper is to present effect of different substrates and different container sizes on the quality of cabbage (Brassica olerecea var. capitata) and cauliflower (Brassica olerecea var. botrytis) seedlings. The highest values of measured plant characteristics (height of the plant, weight of the plant, weight of the root, number of leafs and dry matter content) are measured in the containers with the volume of 90 cm3, except in the case of the Stender A 240 substrate, where the highest values were measured in the containers of 50 cm3. The best seedling quality was achieved in the containers with the smallest volume. In this research Klasmann Potground H substrate in 90 cm3 containers, resulted in best quality seedlings of cabbage and cauliflower.
