Abstract:
A thermal time model was developed to predict development of Mediterranean fruit flies in host fruit.
Control action decision criteria were constructed for citrus, pomefruit and stonefruit based on economic value, injury relative to the stage of fruit development, and the number of insects found.
This approach has been used successfully for the past 12 years to manage fruit fly populations in individual orchards and to develop area wide action programs where growers coordinate control actions over several contiguous properties.
