ISHS Acta Horticulturae 803: VIII International Symposium on Modelling in Fruit Research and Orchard Management

THE EFFECT ON GROWTH AND CROPPING OF BRAMLEY'S APPLE SEEDLING ON MM111, MM106 AND M26 ROOTSTOCKS WITH INTERSTEMS: M27, M9, M26, MALUS 'GOLDEN HORNET' AND DUBBELE ZOETE AAGT.

Keywords:   high budding, anchorage, yield, interstocks
Abstract:
The effects of the rootstocks MM111, MM106 and M26 on Bramley’s apple seedling growing under Irish conditions were found to be similar to those reports on the other main stream apple cultivars grown in the main apple producing areas of the world. The effects of the interstems M27, M9 and M26 on the Bramley were also as reported for other apple cultivars. The interstems Golden Hornet and Dubbele Zoete Aagt did not exhibit dwarfing effects on the Bramley. The effects of the interstems diminished with the increase in dwarfing ability of the rootstocks. The patterns observed for rootstock and interstem effects are similar to those reported in the literature for other apple varieties; allowing published data for other varieties to be used to model the response of Bramley’s apple seedling to the same rootstock/ interstem combinations with reasonable accuracy.
