Abstract:
Banana production suffers from unpredictable fluctuations, even in tropical regions.
Therefore a study of the growth and development in different seasons was conducted to provide a basis for production forecasting models.
In contrasting seasons, the plant height and leaf emission of cultivars ‘Williams’ and ‘Grand Nain’, (Musa spp.
AAA, Cavendish sub-group) were monitored closely.
A mathematical function was fitted to simulate the data.
The rate constant for the simulation of plant height included temperature and time components but for leaf number only temperature was needed in this tropical environment.
The model provided a good description of the plant’s size and leaf emission over time.
