Abstract:
In order to be able to recommend a suitable range of pear trees that would be able to capitalize on the specific ecological conditions in southern Oltenia, an experiment was carried out comparing 10 cultivars and 6 hybrids.
The experiment was planted on a field with a sand layer of 7–8 m thickness, with nitrogen content of 0.05%, 7–12 mg of P2O5 and 10–14 mg of K2O per 100 g soil.
Observations and determinations were carried out on the growth and fruit-setting in these cultivars and hybrids which were grafted on A-type quince rootstock, with the cultivar. 'Curé' as interstock.
With its irrigated sandy fields southern Oltenia offers the opportunity for successful pear tree culture.
High value crops were obtained in the cultivars with late and medium ripening times ('Bella di Giugno', 'Beurré précoce Morettini', 'Napoca', 'Williams'), and the hybrids H 37-136-75 and H 37-31-75, that we are now recommending for that area.
