Abstract:
Acidic growth inhibitors were found in the apical and lateral buds and in the bark of one-year-old shoots of Padus racemosa and Malus domestica during the whole annual cycle.
The seasonal changes in the inhibitors depend on genotype, annual development cycle and meteorological factors.
The content of the inhibitors is correlated with winter-hardiness.
In autumn and winter considerably more inhibitors are found in winter-hardy Padus than in non-hardy Malus.
The temperature-dependent changes in the level of stimulators are much greater in Malus than in Padus.
The inhibitors found in both genera show an Rf (0.4–0.8) corresponding to that of -inhibitor or abscisic acid.
