ISHS Acta Horticulturae 80: Symposium on Growth Regulators in Fruit Production

RUSSETING OF GOLDEN DELICIOUS APPLES AS RELATED TO ENDOGENOUS AND EXOGENOUS GIBBERELLINS.

Author:   T. Eccher
Abstract:
Previous research suggested that russet of Golden Delicious fruits, determined by an anomalous development of the epidermis, depends on hormonal factors.

Treatments on Golden Delicious fruitlets with GA4/7 at 200 ppm, inducing development of regular epidermal cells, significantly reduced russeting of fruits as compared to GA3_treated and to untreated.

First results of analyses of endogenous GA-like substances in fruitlets from clones differently subject to russet show that GA-like substances level is lowest in fruitlets of a russet Golden Delicious clone, middle in fruitlets of normal Golden Delicious, highest in fruitlets of Richared, variety not subject to russet.
