CHEMICAL THINNING PROBLEMS ON APRICOT

Author:   D. Surányi
Abstract:
Experiments between 1972 and 1975 showed that Pomonit (potassium salt of N A A) and Amid-thin (amide of N A A) decreased setting of Hungarian Best apricots and increased yield in the year after treatment. The thinning action of Pomonit was greatest at low temperature but the effect of Amid-thin was not temperature-dependent. The effectiveness of both materials depends on fruit length at the time of treatment.

The frequent occurrence of damaging late spring frosts is an important factor in determining the necessity for thinning apricots in Hungary.
