ISHS Acta Horticulturae 80: Symposium on Growth Regulators in Fruit Production

REACTION OF TWO PEACH CULTIVARS TO THE APPLICATION OF FRUIT-THINNING SUBSTANCES

Authors:   A. Muratovic, N. Kapetanovic, R.M. Numic
Abstract:
On peach cultivars Regina and Early Red Haven satisfactory thinning was induced by: a) Ethrel, 200 and 300 ppm; b) a mixture of 20 ml 50% ethyl alcohol, 1 ml glacial acetic acid, 1 ml 40% formaldehyde and 1.5 g Alar 85; c) Sevin, 200 and 300 ppm. These applications were equally effective at 15 and 30 days after pollination.

Alpha-NAA, 2, 4, 5-T, SADH and mixtures of these chemicals gave a slight reduction in number of fruits depending on year and cultivar. Alpha-NAA at 200 ppm completely defoliated both cultivars in 1976.
