ISHS Acta Horticulturae 80: Symposium on Growth Regulators in Fruit Production

PEACH FRUIT THINNING AND FRUIT GROWTH INDUCED BY GA3 TREATMENTS AT BLOOM TIME

Authors:   R. Guerriero, S. Morini, C. Vitagliano
Abstract:
Peach trees, cv Fayette, sprayed with GA3 before bloom ('calyx red') or at full bloom, produced both seeded and parthenocarpic fruits. The latter were all abscissed during 'June drop'.

The seeded peaches at harvest time were larger than fruits on untreated or hand-thinned trees and had a higher sugar content, better colour and softer flesh. GA3 at 50–125 ppm, applied pre-bloom, gave the best results: 250 ppm induced excessive fruit drop, while treatment at or after blossoming resulted in inadequate thinning.
