Abstract:
Chemicals applied for delaying bloom or increasing frost resistance of flowers of stone fruits gave inconsistent results.
Treatments on young and mature peach trees in January and February, offer the possibility of increasing the concentrations, without any phytotoxic effects, and are able to give a constant delay.
Repeated treatments (2,3,4 times) gave a greater delay, but not related to concentration of the substance applied.
Recent trials, on nectarine cv. "Flavortop" confirmed that SADH, applied after the main rest is able to reduce the speed of flower bud development, thus extending the period in which flower buds are more resistant to freeze injury.
However, this protection acts only for a short period and probably is insufficient to give a practical insurance against frost injury.
