Abstract:
Measurement of rates of diffusion of hormones from apple fruits and seeds showed that similar amounts diffused from whole fruits and from seeds.
The effects, on fruit retention and size, of IAA, GA, NAA and TIBA, applied in lanolin to spurs, pedicels and calyces of apples were observed.
There appeared to be no obstacle in the pedicel to hormone transport from seeds.
TIBA applications to spurs enhanced fruit abscission, but application to the calyx retarded abscission and increased fruit size.
IAA, GA and NAA prolonged fruit retention.
