Abstract:
A description is given of the effects of different concentrations of 3-indolebutyric acid in promoting rooting of hardwood cuttings of plum and apricot rootstocks and of Rosa pomifera cv Carpathia.
Relationships have been established between the natural seasonal periodicity of rooting and the influence of the indolebutyric acid (IBA). Prunus ulmifolia gave 47% rooted cuttings without treatment, but 88% after post-dormant application of 2500 ppm IBA. Rosa pomifera cv Carpathia showed the highest fresh weight of roots after treatment with 5000 ppm IBA. Bud cuttings of cv Carpathia taken during dormancy did not produce roots but formed calluses under the influence of IBA.
