Authors:   Z. Messaoudi, N. Boughida
Keywords:   Ficus carica L., variability, adaptation, biodiversity, niche
Abstract:
Moroccan fig biodiversity is very high and many niches very well suited for fig production are known in Morocco. Morphological and chemical characteristics were evaluated for ten fig cultivars cultivated in the Tadla plain of Morocco. Morphological traits evaluated were fruit form, fruit weight, fruit diameter and length, ostiole width, peduncle form, skin cracking, fruit external colour, fruit internal colour, cavity importance, seed number per fruit and fruit flavour while chemical characters tested were total acidity and total soluble solids. Results indicated high heterogeneity for the cultivars characterized. ‘Filalya’ was especially noteworthy as a very good fig cultivar for fresh consumption. The other cultivars in this study merit further evaluation for quality parameters and their adaptation under other climatic conditions.
