ISHS Acta Horticulturae 797: International Workshop on Greenhouse Environmental Control and Crop Production in Semi-Arid Regions

RESPONSE OF TOMATO GROWTH TO NUTRIENT UPTAKE AND IRRIGATION WATER

Authors:   Y. Al-Zu'bi, S. Abubaker
Keywords:   Jordan, split-plot design, nutrients, greenhouse, irrigation
Abstract:
This research was conducted under greenhouse condition at the Research Station (semi-arid region) of AL-Balqa’ Applied University/Jordan, to evaluate the optimum combination of water and fertilizer levels to attain the best yield and quality of tomato crop plant (Lycopersicon esculentum). This experiment was carried out under greenhouse condition by using a split-plot design with three replicates. Nitrogen percentage in the soil was decreased significantly, mainly due to N mineralization which will also increase losses of nitrogen from the soil, via leaching and gaseous emissions. The total yield was significantly increased by using W3*F1 treatments. It is concluded that the high percentage of dry matter in both leaves and fruits was produced from the compination of water (6 mm/day) and (40.5, 18.37, 49 gm) of (N, P, K) fertilizer.
