Abstract:
Turkey, especially its South-Eastern Anatolia region, is known one of the origin centers of the olive.
For this reason, it has a great richness for olive germplasm resources.
Following a comprehensive inventory work in the olive growing regions of Turkey a germplasm collection has been established with the selected domestic cultivars on the research area of our institute in 1969. Besides, some 28 foreign cultivars having different origins have been added in the collection in the years of 1971 and 1972. In this study, 84 domestic cultivars in the collection have been characterized on the basis of their morphological, pomological and agronomical characteristics.
In conclusion, the results demonstrated a wide range of diversity among the examined cultivars.
