ISHS Acta Horticulturae 790: VIII International People-Plant Symposium on Exploring Therapeutic Powers of Flowers, Greenery and Nature

ART THERAPY AND NATURE

Author:   K. Omori
Keywords:   psychotic patient, creativity, therapy, pathography, pharmacotherapy
Abstract:
Therapists need to recognize assets and deficits of creativity that could save human beings or be harmful to them. Geniuses as well as ordinary people may be cured by expressing nature, merging themselves in nature, or by expressing nature in poems. Creativity is a really essential characteristic of human beings. So, one does not necessarily have to be a psychiatric patient to experience and express the creative act, but it is mainly from psychotic patients that we have learned about the effects and characteristics of art therapy.
