ISHS Acta Horticulturae 79: Symposium on Propagation and Raising of Nursery Stock

THE INFLUENCE OF NUTRIENTS AND PH EFFECT ON ROOTING AS SHOWN BY MUNG BEAN CUTTINGS

Authors:   F. Zucconi, A. Pèra
Abstract:
N, P and K supplied either to stock plants or cuttings enhanced root regeneration in mung bean (Phaseolus aureus, Robb). The activity was strictly pH dependent with maximum response associated with pH 6.5. This pH-dependent effect prevailed over variations due to chemicals or concentrations. However, when nitrogen was supplied to cuttings, a different response was observed, with NH4+ being highly effective and -NO3 or urea ineffective. The stimulatory function of pH was also confirmed when supplying Na salts. A regulatory role of pH in root regeneration is proposed based on these findings.
