Abstract:
The influence of intermittent mist propagation can now be attributed to at least four conditions, namely, (1) reduction of transpiration and respiration, (2) leaching of nutrients and other metabolites including growth regulating substances, and use of nutrient mist to replenish leached nutrients, (3) leaching of root inhibitors, and (4) induction of root promoting substances by mist.
The effects of mist propagation are similar to the effects of rain, dew, mist, and fog on plants growing in natural environments.
Thus, mist and rain influence the development of autumn leaf color, leaf abscission, root initiation, dormancy, and flowering, assuming greater significance in plant production throughout the world.
