EFFECT OF TIMING FOR ROOT PRUNING ON GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT OF LONGAN

Authors:   S. Changjeraja, C. Sritontip, Y. Khaosumain
Keywords:   tree canopy, new shoot, new leaf size, fruit weight per tree, fruit number per panicle, length of inflorescence, total soluble solid
Abstract:
The effect of timing for root pruning on growth and development of longan was studied at Lampang Agricultural Research and Training Centre, during July 2003 and September 2004. Three timing for root pruning, i.e. in September, October and November were compared with the control (non-pruning). The results revealed that the tree canopy, new shoot and new leaf size of the root pruned trees were greater than those of non root pruned trees. Root pruning in September tended to have fruit weight per tree, fruit number per panicle and length of inflorescence greater than other treatments. The total soluble solid of longan was not different in October and November root pruned trees. There are no difference in N, P, K, Ca and Mg content in longan leaves in all treatments.
