GENOTYPIC INFLUENCE ON REGENERATION IN GRAPE

Authors:   B.N.S. Murthy, R. Smita
Keywords:   genotype, regeneration, grape, Vitis, rooting
Abstract:
The genotypic influence on in vitro rooting and further plantlet establishment was investigated employing single nodal cuttings of seven different grape hybrids and their respective parents. All the genotypes produced adventitious roots in response to the growth regulator stimuli, however, pronounced differences were observed with respect to their rooting potential for applied growth regulators. Black Champa, Arka Neelamani, Anab-e-Shahi, Shweta Seedless, Thompson Seedless and Arka Krishna gave better rooting response in terms of both: number of roots and length of roots on MS medium supplemented with IBA compared to those cultured on NAA supplemented medium. Arka Thrishna, Bangalore Blue, Arka Chitra, Angoor Kalan and Arka Majestic produced less number of roots which are shorter in length. The various indicators/parameters indicate that the rooting potential of the progenies were in line with the rooting potential of their respective parents more so conforming with their female parents.
