ISHS Acta Horticulturae 78: Symposium on Tissue Culture for Horticultural Purposes

PORPHYRIN METABOLISM IN PEANUT CELLS CULTURED IN SUCROSE CONTAINING MEDIUM

Author:   R.B. van Huystee
Abstract:
Peanut cells grown in suspension are achlorophyllous while the calli from which they were derived are green. Cells habituated in a medium containing sucrose could not be induced to revert to chlorophyll synthesis. Treatments to induce chlorophyll synthesis were: culture in glucose, and/or in presence of alphaalpha dipyridyl, or in darkness. A loss of chloroplast ribosomes was observed in the cells.
