ISHS Acta Horticulturae 78: Symposium on Tissue Culture for Horticultural Purposes

CLONALE PROPAGATION OF PELARGONIUM X HORTORUM AND PELARGONIUM X PELTATUM FROM MERISTEM CULTURE FOR DISEASE FREE CUTTINGS.

Authors:   G. Beauchesne, J. Albouy, J.C. Morand, J. Daguenet
Abstract:
Meristem cultures of Pelargonium were first undertaken for eradication of bacterial diseases (Corynebacterium and chiefly Xanthomones).

Special medium was made to be sure that bacteria, if it was near the meristem, could grow in the culture medium.

Recently virus eradication (" Crinkle ", " Cucumber mosaic virus " and " Ring spot ") became our first purpose.

Eradication of "Ring spot" virus appeared to be more difficult. Plants from meristem culture were indexed with Chenopodium, Cucumber, Tobacco xantii and Vigne sinensis.

A good mineral medium for "in-vitro" culture of Pelargonium has been tested. It is possible to say that the main difficulties rise from the growth substances balance, sugar and light.
