IRRADIATION STUDIES ON HIGHER PLANT ORGAN

Author:   J. Mousseau
Abstract:
Axillary buds from different species of Nicotiana plants have been subcultured in vitro after exposure to various gamma ray doses. A split-doe effect has been shown. When doses fractions are given at time intervals higher than 15 mn, there is a significant split dose recovery. If split-doses are separated by a long enough time, 2 or 3 hours, a protective effect from the first irradiation towards the following may appear; but for times shorter than 15 mn, the split-dose effect may be a decrease of survival.
