Abstract:
An experiment was carried out in pots at Bangladesh Institute of Nuclear Agriculture (BINA), Mymensingh to evaluate the influence of 4-chlorophenoxyacetic acid (4-CPA) on yield of summer tomatoes.
Two tomato cultivars, namely ‘Binatomato-2’ and ‘Binatomato-3’, and four concentrations of 4-CPA viz., 0, 25, 50 and 100 mg L-1 were taken for this study.
The experiment was laid out in RCBD with 4 replications. ‘Binatomato-3’ gave the highest harvest index (61.47%) increasing plant height (77.89 cm), number of branches per plant (10.19), fruit weight per plant (726.56 g) and total dry matter (17.34 g) than ‘Binatomato-2’ (59.67%). The highest values of plant height, branch number, fruit number, fruit weight and dry matter was obtained with 100 mg L-1 4-CPA but the highest fresh weight and flower numbers were observed with 50 mg L-1 4-CPA. ‘Binatomato-3’ showed better performance at 100 mg L-1 4-CPA with respect to attaining highest plant height (83.98 cm), maximum branch and fruit numbers per plant (13 and 20), highest fruit weight (844.88 g) and highest accumulation of dry matter (22.51 g).
