IDENTIFICATION AND CHARACTERIZATION OF GIBBERELLIN-RELATED DWARF MUTANTS IN MALUS HUPEHENSIS

Abstract: Five dwarf mutants, A1, A1D, B1, C2, and C3 selected from -rays radiated 'Pingyitiancha' Malus hupehensis seeds were treated with exogenous gibberellic acid (GA₃), auxin (NAA) and brassinolide (BL). Endogenous GA₃ and GA₄ content in both the wild type and the mutants were measured in the rapid shoot growing period with an enzymelinked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The results showed that the mutants B1, A1, A1D, C2, and C3 exhibited reduced responses to exogenous GA₃ compared to that of wild type. Content of GA₃ was 2 to 6-fold more and GA₄ was 6 to 60-fold more in the leaves of the mutants than in leaves of the wild type 'Pingyitiancha'. This indicated that they were GA-response mutants.
