Authors:   Hasoo Koh, Jeongmin Lee
Keywords:   floral arts
Abstract:
The existence of floral art started with the history of human life and it can be said that it is related to religious rituals. The same can be said about the history of Korean traditional floral art. Korean forefathers developed a unique floral art style that is distinct not only from Western style, but also from Chinese and Japanese styles. The most distinct feature, as found in Korean culture, is the utmost esteem for affinity with nature. The exquisite harmony between natural beauty and human ability therefore, is the ultimate design pursuit of Korean floral art. This article briefly summarizes the history of Korean traditional floral art looking closely on its origin and ideological background as well as the periodical changes and attributes from Three Kingdoms era to the present day.
