Abstract:
Membership of the EC for Greece, Portugal and Spain will cast doubt to a greater extent even than has been the case before on the workability of the present intervention and price reference system of the common organization of the market for fresh fruit and vegetables.
This realization is the result of an investigation, on which this contribution is based, which deals with the consequences of an extension of the EC to include the above-mentioned countries upon the monthly external trade balances and degrees of self-sufficiency with regard to the products coming under these regulations, as well as being a result of experience gathered up to the present with these measures for the organization of the market.
Various suggestions for the adaptation of such measures are put forward for discussion, taking into consideration the different positions of interest of those affected by these regulations.
