MARKET RESEARCH PER SECTOR OF HORTICULTURE BY MEANS OF AGGREGATED NUMBERS OF VOLUMES AND PRICES

Author:   E.H.J.M. de Kleijn
Abstract:
Since the year 1973 market studies have been made in the Netherlands concerning the development of supply and demand of individual horticultural products. With a view to policy-making, however, there is an increasing need of suchlike information on groups of related crops. By means of aggregated numbers developments of prices and volumes in various branches of horticulture should be reported. Such aggregated numbers are called composite index numbers.

Here we shall go further into the problems related to the construction of such index numbers. Besides an application will be given of the parameter estimate in glass-culture of vegetables. The result of these parameter estimates will be compared with the results of the analyses applied to several products.
