THE PRODUCTION OF UP-TO-DATE HORTICULTURAL COSTINGS IN THE AGRICULTURAL DEVELOPMENT AND ADVISORY SERVICE

Author:   G.L. Cladwell
Abstract:
Up-to-date costings in horticultural advisory work are essential for the sound planning of individual businesses. Each region in which particular crops are important is responsible for producing crop profiles which state the physical outputs and the quantities of materials used to produce the crop.

A computer is used to store the crop profiles, which amount to several hundred when variations to allow for different systems of production are included.

A Databank containing all relevant crop values and materials costs, forms the other part of the system.

Each year revised costings are produced and distributed to the Regional, Divisional and Area Offices.

Although it is envisaged that the standard costings will meet most situations there are facilities to produce separate costings for particular circumstances.
