STUDIES ON THE PHOTOSYNTHETIC CHARACTERISTICS OF CHINESE TOON

Authors:   K. Xu, G.Q. Zhang

Abstract:
Photosynthesis of Chinese toon (Cedrela sinensis Juss) at different growth stages, different leaf ages and the daily photosynthetic changes, as well as the influences of CO2 concentration, light intensity and paclobutrazol (PP-333) treatment was studied. Highest photosynthetic rates were observed in plants showing rapid growth, and in leaves aged 20-60 d. The daily photosynthetic rates varied showing a double peak curve, reaching the first peak at about 9:00 AM and the second peak at about 15:00 PM. When the plants were treated with PP-333, the plants of Chinese toon were dwarfed, but the photosynthetic rate was slightly increased. According to the calculation from Pn-CO2 and Pn-PFD response curves, the light compensation point was estimated to be 94.7 μmol•m-2•s-1, light saturation point 1369.4 μmol•m-2•s-1, and the CO2 compensation point and CO2 saturation point were 101.5 μl•L-1 and 1331.9 μl•L-1 respectively.
