INFLUENCE OF ARBUSCULAR MYCORRHYZAL FUNGI ON FRUIT ROOTSTOCKS

Authors:   J. Druzic Orlic, Z. Cmelik, S. Redzepovic
Keywords:   fruit rootstocks, arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi, Glomus
Abstract:
Fruit rootstocks GF 655/2 and Gisela 5 were inoculated with two combinations of arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi. The first combination consisted of AM fungi Glomus mossae and the second was a mixture of three different AM fungi species: G. mossae, G. intraradices and G. coronatum. The two rootstocks were inoculated when planted in the nursery. Combinations were tested for their growth-promoting abilities on the two rootstocks. Standard morphometric parameters were measured (shoot fresh weight, root fresh weight, shoot dry weight, root:shoot fresh weight ratio, shoot height, etc.) and percentage of root colonization was assessed. Both AM fungi combinations improved plant growth, compared with the uninoculated control, while the AM inoculum mix was more effective in promoting plant development.
