| Abstract:
The demand for and use of herbaceous plants in the landscape has witnessed major changes in the past 25 years in the United States, and often varies within different regions within the country. Private, residential settings remain important repositories for herbaceous plants, but the rise in their use in commercial landscape designs has been unprecedented. In the minds of some, the phrase, "color, color, color" has guided and driven the demand for herbaceous plants by homeowners, office building campuses, apartment complexes, and shopping centers. This demand has helped to create a long list of suitable plants for a wide variety of landscapes. A review of some of this plant material includes: perennials used as annuals, winter perennials, tender perennials, tender perennials that climb and tender perennials for shade. | |
