Abstract:
Plasma membranes from ground cover chrysanthemum (Dendranthema × morifolium Tzvel.) leaves were prepared by an aqueous polymer two-phase partitioning system.
The fluidity and composition of fatty acids in membrane-lipids isolated from the leaves were determined by fluorescence polarization, scanning thin- layer chromatography and gas chromatography methods.
The results showed that ground cover chrysanthemum possessed higher levels of unsaturated fatty acids after 4°C cold stress for 6 days than that before the low temperature treatment.
For the plants growing at 4°C, phosphatidyl choline (PC) was the main factor to influence membrane-lipid fluidity during adaptation to low temperature stress.
After analysis of differences of fluidity and composition of fatty acids of plasma membranes prepared from ground cover chrysanthemum in different temperature conditions, the mechanism of cold resistance of ground cover chrysanthemum in terms of the composition and the structure of membrane-lipids were discussed.
