| Abstract:
Within the past 25 years, the American perspective on medicinal plants has been revolutionized. While the use of plants as medicine was formerly considered a primitive concept unacceptable in a modern nation with an enviable medical system, a reconsideration of the contributions that medicinal plant material can offer a contemporary health system has led to fresh views about medicine and plants. This reassessment of medicinal plants has stimulated cultivation of new species and led to increases in production of previously cultivated traditional species. Continued acceptance and market growth for medicinal plants in America will undoubtedly depend on the production and processing of quality plant material and extracts, free from adulterants and having standardized constituent levels. | |
