Abstract:
Cysteine proteinase (CPase) is an enzyme that may catalyze the degradative process leading to petal wilting in carnation flowers.
To date, two CPase genes have been identified in carnation (DcCP1 and DcCP2). Studies on the physiological roles of the two genes in carnation petal senescence revealed that; (1) DcCP1 and DcCP2 are regulated differently in carnation petals, (2) ethylene and dehydration act as factors to regulate DcCP1, and (3) DcCP2 is responsive to neither ethylene nor dehydration.
