MICROBIAL INOCULANT AND BIOSTIMULANT IMPACT ON TURFGRASS GROWTH, MORPHOLOGY AND STRESS TOLERANCE WHEN APPLIED PRE-GERMINATION

Abstract:
The use of biostimulant products such as seaweed extracts and microbial inoculants has become popular in the turfgrass industry. There have been many claims that these products may enhance turfgrass establishment rate and promote turf stress tolerance levels. However, limited scientific information is available to support these assertions. This research was designed to study the impact of applying seaweed extract, microbial inoculant and seaweed extract/microbial inoculant treatments into a rootzone prior to turfgrass seedling germination. The results demonstrate that the application of these products significantly reduced turfgrass tiller number and stem elongation rate on multiple measurement dates. However, grass stress tolerance levels were increased as a result of using these products.
