FORCING EARLY POTATO CROPS IN ROMANIA |

| Abstract:
Producing an early potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) crop is a traditional cultural practice in the Southern Romania. This crop allows growers to obtain a high income after a short time. Research was carried out in 2004 and 2005, in Bucharest, Romania, to find the best economical and technological combinations between cultivar, density and culture system, to obtain high and very early productions of good quality. The cultivars S. tuberosum ‘Agata’, ‘Impala’, ‘Ostara’ and ‘Kondor’ were planted in 3 schemes: 60/10, 60/20 and 60/25 cm. The 12 experimental combinations were cultivated in a 2 m x 5 m protected tunnel structure covered with transparent polyethylene, and in open field (control). In 2005, the planting in the plastic tunnel was made on 18 March and in the open field on 4 April, when the optimal conditions for the planting were achieved. The experiment was organized using 4 replicates sub-plot, containing 3 replicates. Observation concerning plant growth, data and percent of emerging for each replicate, the number of main stems, the number of leaves, number of tubers/replicate, weight and length/tuber, determination of average yield for each harvest, and determination of average yield obtained when the crop was removed, were obtained. ‘Agata’ produced superior results. The best yield was obtained for V2 Agata (19.27 t/ha) on 16. May 2005. For the control, the highest yield was obtained on 3 June 2005, for the V5Mt Impala (23.33 t/ha). Impala also produced well. V5 Impala (16.34 t/ha) on 16 May 2005 and on 03 June 2005 when were obtained 40.83t/ha (V5 Impala) and 23.33 t/ha, and V5Mt Impala on the same date. | |
