Abstract:
Eighty-seven taxa of Citrus, Fortunella and Poncirus were studied using amplified fragment length polymorphism (AFLP). Two primer pairs were selected (EcoRI-AAC+MseI-CAC, EcoRI-ACT+MseI-CAT) and 275 bands were scored.
By cluster analysis, a molecular systematic tree based on Nei’s genetic distance was obtained.
The phylogenetic relationships among species of these genera were studied.
The results showed that C. medica, C. grandis and C. reticulata were the original species of Subgenus Citrus.
Citrus ichangensis should be considered as a species of Subgenus Papeda. We determined that C. aurantifolia, C. hystrix, C. sinensis and C. junos were hybrids and proposed their ancestors. Citrus macrosperma was the most primitive species studied and played a great role in the evolution of the genus.
