Authors:   A. Battilani, F.L. Plauborg, M. Andersen, C. Jensen, L. Tønner Klank, L. Sandei
Keywords:   food safety, water quality, irrigation technologies, PRD
Abstract:
The European project SAFIR (Safe and High Quality Food Production using Low Quality Waters and Improved Irrigation Systems and Management, www.safir4eu.org, is mainly focused on allowing a safe use of treated wastewater or low quality water for irrigation purposes. At the same time new technologies will be developed to support the reuse of water applying a mild water treatment in situ and to increase the water use efficiency by means of a new irrigation strategy (Partial Root Drying – PRD) and the use of precise management tools (DSS). In this paper the project structure, expected results and strategic relevance for the processing tomato will be presented and discussed.
